MODEL QUESTIONS ON S&T   : Paper GS-III ,2021

(Set 3 )

Prepared by : P.Potayya Sarma

MODEL QUESTIONS:

1)Can India Establish a Circular Bio-economy by 2050?

Clue: A circular economy is based on the well-known set of Rs  -reuse, repair, refurbishment, remanufacturing, reclamation, replenishment, reverence for Nature and recycling – all of which serve to reduce wastes, conserve resources and truncate environmental footprints of human existence. This paradigm also has strong links to the Sustainable Development Goal No.12 of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – namely, Sustainable Production and Consumption.

A bioeconomy (alternatively often referred to as a bio-based economy) as defined by European Commission is all about taking recourse to forests, seas and fields for resources and thereby gradually lessen dependence on non-renewable resources.

While circular economy ,in general includes both renewable and non-renewable resources, a full-fledged circular bio-economy focusing on renewable resources, is attractive for the attainment of several sustainable development goals.

Circular economy and bio-economy may be considered to be subsets of a so-called ‘green economy’ , a term that was coined in 2012 and includes social equity and well-being in addition to economic growth and environmental sustainability.

2) Space Debris – Potential Threat to Space Exploration

3) Indian Agriculture – Journey from Begging Bowl to Sustainable Food Security

4) Keeping Fit for a Better Tomorrow

5) One hundred years have elapsed since the word ROBOT became a part of the vocabulary of all world languages. The term robot is not only limited to science fiction but has now become familiar to everyone. This year is the centenary of the robot.

6) 75 Years of Explosion of the Atomic Bomb

7) For a successful TB elimination programme, we need to take lessons from the Polio Campaign which was a huge success because the major stakeholders such as hospitals, government, NGOs, social workers and many more came together to make India Polio-free.

8) A home on Mars seems to be a reality, though not on the time scale envisaged by enthusiasts. Scientists have already turned their gaze to destinations outside our solar system, taking them on interstellar journeys to habitable exoplanets.

9) COVID-19 tests are critical to measuring the spread of the disease and determining how to handle the pandemic.

10) Triggered by the challenge of the COVID-19 lockdown and spurred by two timely enabling provisions of the government, telemedicine has taken off in India and may permanently impact how healthcare is delivered.

11) ‘DNA phenotyping’ is a new technique, it has been widely used in criminal investigation and has solved many cases by providing leads, narrowing down to a pool of suspects and providing solutions to many old and recent cases in history.
